The last time our volunteers read to children at Lincoln Centennial School was in March of 2000.  Everything came to a grinding halt with Covid at that time.  We offered to restart the program in September, but the school was reluctant to have adult volunteers back in the school.
And here we are in 2024, relaunching the program to kindergarten children on Jan. 10th.  This is wonderful news. We’ve got a great group of nine volunteers who have offered to read to the children – some Rotarians or friends or family of Rotarians – and everyone has secured their NRPS Vulnerable Sector Clearance Certificate.
Each week 4 volunteers read to children for 20 minutes each over the course of the hour.  Eventually we’ll also be doing some phonics work with the children.
