On October 1 the club gathered for a BBQ at Rotary Park. Scott Schappert hosted, Tom Arkell provided support and the BBQ, and Marco Canzoneri took on grill duty.
John Travers and Michael Michaud shared how they got involved in rehabilitating Rotary Park. They talked about the cleanup it took to bring the space back, and the volunteer who stepped forward to install the gravel path that now runs through it.
The new Geopark Sign which our club funded was presented by Perry Hartwick, Board Chair of the Niagara Geopark, and Tim Johnson, president of the Niagara Academy for Indigenous Relations and project director of the Indigenous Trail Network. The Geopark celebrates Niagara's geology and cultural heritage, including Indigenous history, and is working toward UNESCO Global Geopark designation. The sign includes the new Indigenous Trail Network. It notes the Indigenous presence on this land dating back some 13,000 years.
